Review - Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

You may (will) have missed it but a couple of nights ago I reviewed the product of the world's greatest hype machine - also known as Daft Punk's latest album Random Access Memories - live on Twitter in an innovative extension to the standard issue Pipe Blog.

13 tracks, 140 characters for each...it went something like this....

@ThePipeBlog: Give Life Back To Music
Are Errors claiming royalties for this?

@ThePipeBlog: Anyway. Track 1, a little disappointing.  Track 2 - The Game of Love. Uh oh, this isn't going well.

@ThePipeBlog: Giorgio by Moroder. Better, definitely better. Enigmatic intro and first sprinkling of Stardust at 1 min 50 secs.

@ThePipeBlog: Within. Maybe I'm not in the mood for this tonight. Vocals are grating.  Echoes of 2001's Discovery (which I didn't really like).

@ThePipeBlog: Instant Crush. Sounds just like Daft Punk and, eh, The Strokes. Kinda works. Nodding for the first time.

@ThePipeBlog: Lose Yourself to Dance. Huge bass, Pharrell on falsettoes. Best song so far. 'Hit' all over it.

@ThePipeBlog: Touch. Massive space disco with trumpets.

@ThePipeBlog: Get Lucky. Destined for the greatness that so few bands ever achieve. Genius.

@ThePipeBlog: Beyond. Completely unnecessary intro followed by the world's first funk-ridden country 'n' western song. Works.

@ThePipeBlog: Motherboard. Different to everything else so far. Darker, denser. Can see myself listening to this a lot.

@ThePipeBlog: Fragments of Time. Wooft - this is straight from Top of The Pops 2. I'm picturing one of those keyboard guitars.

@ThePipeBlog: Doin It Right. Panda bear shaped bass monster. Ears ringing.

@ThePipeBlog: Last one. Contact. Yowsers. They've thrown the kitchen sink at this one. Nightmarishly noisy and BRILLIANT.

@ThePipeBlog: Verdict? 7.5/10. Doesn't get into its stride quickly enough. Some heartstopping moments though.
